History
Soap is first seen in writings dating back to ancient Greece by the physician Galen in the second century AD. Soap remained a curiosity even to the 1700's, were it was available in just 63 shops in London, England. In 1890 there were 5 major soap companies; Colgate, Morse Taylor, Albert, Pears, and Bailey. Soap was very expensive at the time, about 25 cents (compared to the 5 cents it cost to buy milk). Soap has gone from curiosity to necessity in its lifetime.
